Ecuador seeks draw with Netherlands and moves into Group A of the World Cup

Packed by the crowd, Ecuador sought a 1-1 draw with the Netherlands and moved Group A of the World Cup. At Khalifa International Stadium, in Doha, Qatar, Gakpo opened the scoring for the Dutch and Valencia equalized for the Ecuadorians.

The match for Group A was very balanced. Holland was superior and opened the scoring in the first stage, even though it found many difficulties to overcome the strong marking of Ecuador.

In the second half, the Latinos grew in production and began to reach the attacking field more. In a rebound after Estupian’s shot, Valencia scored and isolated himself in the lead of the World Cup artillery, with three goals.

With the result, Holland and Ecuador reached 4 points in Group A. At the moment, both teams are qualifying for the round of 16 of the World Cup. Qatar, the host, is eliminated.

The game

Early goal and Ecuadorian pressure

With just five minutes of the ball rolling, a beautiful long pass found Gakpo, after a failure by the Ecuadorian defense, who cleared the play and shot to fill Galindez’s net. In view of this, Ecuador began to try to go out more on the attack, giving spaces for the opponent’s counterattack.

A few minutes later, Van Gaal’s men kept possession of the ball and calmly tried to find spaces. However, it was the South Americans who had dangerous sequential attacks, mainly from the sides and in corners.

At the 32nd minute, Valencia received the ball at the edge of the area, dribbled the marker and shot in the corner, forcing a great save from Nuppert, in the best chance of a draw so far.

As for the additions, after a corner kick from a free-kick, Estupian left everything the same, but the linesman marked offside for Porozo, understanding that he had participated in the bid.

Valencia draws and heats up the match

If it wasn’t worth it at the end of the first stage, it was worth it at the beginning of the second. After a troubled exit from the defense, starting with Noppert and several failures in the defense field, Espupian kicked and the Dutch goalkeeper spread it out. Well positioned, Enner Valencia appeared and puffed up the nets to tie and set the game on fire.

Afterwards, Plata took a rebound on the left side, opened space and risked a strong kick, which exploded on the crossbar, scaring the Dutch. Shortly afterwards he arrived again with danger but without success.

In the only clear attack by the Netherlands in the second half, Gakpo received a free kick on the right and crossed over, passing close to the crossbar, but he was offside. The game had few events after that, except for a ball by Noppert that hit Ibarra, but the score remained 1-1.
