🇧🇷blonde”, a film that reimagines the life of Marilyn Monroe told through the lens of celebrity culture, arrived this Wednesday (28) to the Netflix catalog, dividing opinions. The plot has Ana de Armas in the role of the Hollywood star, who is already one of the favorites for the next awards season, but the script did not please so many fans of the legendary artist.
The actress’s performance is one of the highlights of the production and the reason for the positive reviews surrounding the feature. However, the nude and more vulnerable scenes of the character bothered the public. See reactions on social media:
“Blonde” is inspired by the book of the same name written by Joyce Carol Oates, which shows speculation about the life of Norma Jeane Mortenson until she became the sex symbol, actress and model known as Marilyn Monroe, in the 1950s.
The big-screen adaptation is directed by Andrew Dominik, who first envisioned the project’s script in 2008 and revisited it a few times over the course of a decade. The idea is to show how Marilyn did not get used to and felt distant from the glamorous and romanticized image that she squandered in front of the cameras.
In addition to Ana de Armas (“Between Knives and Secrets”) in the lead role, the cast will have Bobby Cannavale (“Nine Unknown”) as Joe DiMaggio, Adrien Brody (“The Pianist”) as Arthur Miller and Sara Paxton (“Aquamarine” ) as Mrs. Flynn. After its run through the Venice International Film Festival, “Blonde” debuted with a 50% critical approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
