The Twilight saga remains popular to this day. Films starring Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner and Kristen Stewart made their casts famous and nowadays it’s hard to imagine other actors in the roles. Carlisle Cullen, however, was almost played by another actor.
Twilight author Stephenie Meyer has been open about her casting preferences for the film adaptation of her saga, with the author wanting Henry Cavill to play Edward Cullen.
However, Cavill was too old to play the vampire, resulting in Robert Pattinson taking on the role.
The Twilight film adaptations also almost cast Lucy Hale before she was famous, but the biggest change in the saga’s cast came when Meyer’s choice of Carlisle Cullen was overturned.
Author wanted Sons of Anarchy star in Twilight
Meyer wanted Sons of Anarchy’s Charlie Hunnam to play Edward’s father, but luckily, that was rejected as the actor was only 6 years older than Robert Pattinson in real life.
That lack of age difference could have created some embarrassing storytelling issues, so it’s lucky that Hunnam didn’t get the part.
Carlisle is not Edward’s biological father, so it would be fine for him to be Edward’s vampire father in the movies, but it would be odd to see two actors nearly the same age playing such roles.
Hunnam turned down the role of Carlisle Cullen in the films and the offer, so he passed it on to Henry Cavill, but he still opted out of the series. This resulted in Peter Facinelli, 12 years Pattinson’s senior, finally securing the role.
Twilight is available on Netflix.
