IT IS the place where all teams want to be on December 18th. Inaugurated on November 22, 2021, the Lusail stadium is the biggest stadium in this World Cup (80,000 spectators) and will be the stage for the tournament’s grand final, hosting a total of 10 games. For now, this Thursday, Portugal-Uruguay will host, starting at 19:00 (mainland Portugal time).
The enclosure, which is the centerpiece of the new metropolis of Lusail, 15 kilometers from Doha, reflects the handcrafted bowls found throughout the Arab and Islamic world during the rise of this civilization. In addition, its design recreates the play of light and shadows of the fanar lantern.
As a curiosity, and in the name of sustainable development, this stadium will later be transformed into a community space for schools, shops, cafes, sports facilities and health clinics.
