FPF confirms: Nuno Mendes is out of the 2022 World Cup

The Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) confirmed this morning that Nuno Mendes is out of the 2022 World Cup, as is morefootball had already reported.

In a statement, the FPF informs that the Paris Saint-Germain winger was “reported as unavailable” by the Health and Performance Unit, but that “he will remain part of the national delegation, where he will begin the recovery work”.

The 20-year-old, it should be noted, had missed the first game of the National Team, against Ghana, due to injury. He recovered for Uruguay and was introduced by Fernando Santos in the starting eleven, but left injured and in tears in the 42nd minute.

It should be noted that the national team will not be able to call a replacement for Nuno Mendes, as the World Cup is already underway.
