South Korea v Portugal: lineups and information about the World Cup game

Portugal and South Korea end their participation in the group stage of the World Cup in Qatar this Friday. The match valid for group H is scheduled for noon (in Brasília), at the Cidade da Educação stadium.

The Portuguese team, third to qualify for the knockout stage of the World Cup after defeating Uruguay, will seek to secure the leadership of its group. The Portuguese already occupy the first position, with six points won, and need only a draw against the Koreans to stay at the top.

The team can still end up top even in the event of a loss. For this, it is enough that Ghana does not surpass it in terms of goal difference – at the moment, the difference is three goals.

With the vacancy in hand, coach Fernando Santos is likely to choose to save some starters aiming for the knockout stage. Throughout the week, star Cristiano Ronaldo did not train with the group and did specific activities at the gym, which could be absent for the match.

Others who can rest are midfielders Bruno Fernandes and Rúben Neves, striker João Félix and defender Rúben Dias, all suspended and who, if they receive a yellow card, will be left out of the round of 16.

A certain casualty is Nuno Mendes. The left-back left the field crying in the victory over Uruguay due to a thigh injury, and will even miss the rest of the competition. Danilo Pereira and Otávio, in recovery work, are doubts.

With one point from two games, South Korea need a miracle to reach the World Cup knockout stage. Winning, of course, is essential, but it is not enough to qualify. In addition to the triumph, the team needs to count on a defeat by Ghana to Uruguay, and that the South Americans do not stay ahead on goal difference (one goal difference).

If the Ghanaians and Uruguayans are tied, the Asians need the Africans not to surpass them in the same regard – the disadvantage of the South Koreans, currently, is one goal. At the moment, Korea is third in the group and will be eliminated with a draw or defeat against Portugal.

The selection does not have suspensions or absences due to injury and, therefore, must have maximum strength to seek the classification. The only embezzlement will be coach Paulo Bento, who will not be on the sidelines against his native country after being expelled in the defeat to Ghana, by 3 to 2. The team, then, will be commanded by assistant Sergio Costa.

Simultaneously, the other components of the group, Ghana and Uruguay face each other at the Al Janoub stadium. It is worth noting that Brazil’s opponent in the round of 16 will start from here. If the Brazilian team confirms the first place, it will face the second place in group H and, if it stays in the second position, it will face the leader.
