SC referee disallows goal and is ‘fixed’ by VAR in the best game of the World Cup

Neuza Inês Back from Santa Catarina was part of one of the craziest games of this 2021 World Cup in Qatar. Costa Rica and Germany, in a duel at various times, closed Group E of the competition. The game, in addition to all the atmosphere involved, marked the first command by a female arbitration team.

Neuza Inês Back was the number one assistant of the confrontation that, by itself, already carried an energetic load for the imminent elimination of Germany – confirmed at the end of the match, inclusive. Alongside Karen Diaz Medina, from Mexico, who kept the whistle, as well as Frenchwoman Stéphaine Frappart.

Since the ‘flag 1’ was left by Santa Catarina de Saudades, in the west of Santa Catarina, it was on the lower right side of the transmission.

First stage by far

As she was on the right side of the attack, Neuza Inês took on Costa Rica’s offensive side in the first 45 minutes, that is, she practically watched the game.

Germany opened the scoring early on and kept up the pressure throughout the first half. Costa Rica, cornered, managed to counterattack only once, in error by the German defense and generated a corner kick signaled by the Santa Catarina native.

Error in the second step

The second half, when Germany started to attack in the “field” of the Brazilian assistant, the unexpected happened. Costa Rica, on the other side, tied and turned the game around.

It was the moment when, for three minutes, Japan and Costa Rica were qualified for the next stage, beating the powerful Spain and Germany, respectively.

But it had only been three minutes. Then Germany tied and came back with Harvertz, both goals ‘signed’ by Neuza Inês.

The game was designed for the end and a discreet performance by the Brazilian assistant. At 43′ Gnabry reversed a ball to the left side of the attack where the German scored in the middle where center forward Fulkrüg sent it to the net.

Neuza Inês Backs pointed out the impediment at the origin of the touch for the center forward. The VAR was activated and after almost 1.2 minutes of checking, the Mexican Karen Diaz scored the German goal.

Final game 4 to 2 and, despite the ‘error’, a historic performance by Neuza Backs and the entire refereeing team.

In 92 years of history, it was the first time that a women’s team led a men’s World Cup match.

The game

Costa Rica and Germany had the best game of the World Cup in Qatar, with the Germans winning 4-2 over the Costa Ricans. The duel was held in the afternoon (from Brasilia-DF) this Thursday (1st) and went down in history for a series of elements.

The result, however, was not enough to classify the four-time world champions for the next phase.
