The Chinese BAW (or Beijing Auto Works) started manufacturing the Calorie in November, its four-door pickup truck with a double cabin with an initial price of US$ 8,270, the equivalent of just over R$ 43 thousand in direct conversion.
The price is so competitive that the car is considered the cheapest new medium pickup truck in the world, according to Four wheels🇧🇷 At 5.28 meters long and 1.90 meters wide, its measurements are similar to those of a Toyota Hilux (a second version with an extended axle is 5.52 meters long).

The rear-wheel drive vehicle is powered by a 2.0 liter Wuling Liuji aspirated engine paired with a 5-speed manual transmission, capable of producing 144 hp and a maximum torque of 20.39 kgfm.
To reduce costs, there are no 4×4 or automatic transmission options. However, a surprise inside are the two 10.25” screens, one works as a digital instrument panel and the other as an entertainment center with Bluetooth that can be paired with the driver’s cell phone.

The equipment list includes: rear parking radar, remote control key, electronic steering system, electric air conditioning, tire pressure monitoring, front airbags, reversing cameras and electronically adjustable side mirrors. In addition, the load capacity is up to 795 kg.
In the end, the value was accessible even in China, where the average price of pickups in this category is US$ 14,000 (R$ 73,000). Calorie hits the Chinese market in 2022. For now, the manufacturer has not revealed whether it plans to take the novelty to other markets.
