Former Corinthians winger made his name in the history of the Polish national team

This Sunday, Poland and France face each other in search of a place in the quarterfinals of the 2022 World Cup. The selection that has Robert Lewandowski as a reference, already had a former Corinthians player among the main names of the team. This is Roger Guerreiro, who played for Timão in 2003 and 2005.

Hired by the Parque São Jorge club in 2003, Roger Guerreiro ended up getting burned with Fiel that year. The lateral was expelled in a childish way in the game against River Plate, valid for the round of 16 of the Libertadores. On the occasion, Corinthians was defeated by 2 to 1 and ended up eliminated from the continental tournament.

Afterwards, Roger came to play for Flamengo and Juventude. In 2006, the winger arrived at Légia Warsaw, in Poland. With the good performance in local football, the Brazilian received the invitation to become a Polish national from the president of the country at the time, Lech Kaczynski.

With dual nationality, the former Timão player was called up for the 2008 Euro Cup, Poland’s first participation in the competition. By scoring the goal in the 1-1 draw against Austria, Roger wrote his name in the history of the Polish national team. The goal scored by the Brazilian was the first for the country in the most important tournament on the continent.

Roger Guerreiro played 25 games with the Polish national team and scored 4 goals. The full-back has closely followed the country’s participation in the World Cup in Qatar – see post below.
