France and Poland open Sunday in the round of 16 of the World Cup. The teams face each other at 12:00 (Brasília time) at Al Thumama Stadium, in Doha, Qatar. And the teams bet everything on their greatest stars to advance.
Current world champions France have their biggest star in Qatar in Mbappé. The striker is one of the top scorers at the World Cup, with three goals scored against Australia and Denmark.
Poland, on the other hand, expects a little more from Lewandowski. The striker scored only once in Qatar, against Saudi Arabia, and even missed a penalty on his debut that ended up costing the victory over Mexico.
On the other hand, Poland has a very solid defense, commanded by goalkeeper Szczesny. And that raises a lot of concern in the French coach, Didier Deschamps.
“Poland defended a lot in the three group stage matches. Defends well and loves it. But we shouldn’t limit ourselves to that. It’s a competitive team with experienced players like Szczesny, Glik, Lewandowski, Krychowiak, Zielinski, Grosicki,” he said.
On the other hand, Mbappé is Poland’s biggest concern.
“How to defend against Kylian Mbappé? I think we need to get some bikes to the guys back there. Now, seriously: it’s hard to play against one of the best players in the world. The team is very important, because no one can stop it alone”, said the Polish striker Milik.
Whoever advances from the clash between Poland and France will face the winner of England and Senegal in the quarterfinals.
