Mark Strong, Jade Anouka and Chris Mason join the cast

Mark Strong (1917, Kingsman films), Jade Anouka (His Dark Materials, Small Axe) and Chris Mason (Broadchurch, Dirty John) were cast alongside Emily Watson, Shirley Henderson and Travis Fimmel in the HBO Max series Dune: The Sisterhood (wt), from Legendary Television.

Most of the Dune-related attention has probably revolved around Denis Villeneuve’s excellent film. But there’s more to it than just the movie to get excited about. Warner Bros. is launching a TV series called Dune: The Sisterhood, which will air on HBO Max. We heard about this news in 2019, but now we know who will deliver the project. Initially co-showrunner with Diane Ademu-John, Alison Schapker will now serve as sole showrunner on the project.

Additionally, Legendary shared that Johan Renck will direct the first two episodes, as well as executive produce the show. Emily Watson and Shirley Henderson were cast as the show’s leads. And now, Mark Strong, Jade Anouka and Chris Mason have come aboard Dune: The Sisterhood as well. The show will serve as a prequel to the films.

Mark Strong plays Emperor Javicco Corrino, a man from a long line of wartime emperors who is called upon to rule the Imperium and administer a fragile peace.

Jade Anouka plays Sister Theodosia, a talented and ambitious Sisterhood acolyte who harbors a dangerous secret about her past.

Chris Mason plays Keiran Atreides, a master swordsman from a great house whose ambition to live up to his family name is cut short when he forms an unexpected connection with a member of the royal family.

In addition, according to Deadline, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Game of Thrones and Carnival Row actress Indira Varma will also participate in the program. Indira Varma will play the role of Empress Natalya. The actress is described as “a formidable royalty who united thousands of worlds in her marriage to Emperor Corrino”.

According to a statement, the description of the program is as follows:

Set 10,000 years before the rise of Paul Atreides, Dune: The Sisterhood follows the Harkonnen Sisters as they battle forces that threaten the future of humanity and establish the legendary sect known as the Bene Gesserit.

As the press release mentions, the titular “sisterhood” references the Bene Gesserit, a mysterious order of women who exist in the book series. The Bene Gesserit form a political and social force whose members train their bodies and minds to the point of gaining superhuman abilities. They also seek to help other humans achieve enlightenment, but ultimately remain loyal only to themselves.

According to Deadline, “The Bene Gesserit deftly weave the feudal politics and intrigues of the Empire, pursuing their own plans that will eventually lead them to the enigmatic planet Arrakis – known to its inhabitants as Dune”🇧🇷 In the series and film, the mother of our hero Paul Atreides (Timotheé Chalamet), Lady Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson), was raised by the Bene Gesserit, but betrays the secret order in the name of love.

In addition, filming for the sequel to Dune, Dune: Part 2 has also begun, and the film is set for release on November 3, 2023.
