Thiago Silva came out in defense of the Brazilian team players who became the target of criticism for taking advantage of a break to go to a trendy restaurant in Doha, Qatar. Names like Gabriel Jesus, Vini Jr and Eder Militão went alongside Ronado Fenômemo to a place that served a gold-plated steak, with a value that exceeds R$ 1,500.
On that occasion, the athletes were given a break from the coaching staff after qualifying early for the round of 16 of the World Cup to have dinner outside the team’s concentration in a hotel.
“First we have to analyze what we do on the field, we are here to answer if we played well, if we played badly, what we could have done differently. In the off-field part, I don’t allow myself to speak. It was a little break and I was responsible for asking the commission for that time. I know that the boys went out with their families and had dinner wherever they wanted. Sometimes, we are looking for trouble. If they want to disturb, I’m very sorry, we are very aware, responsible and calm about what we have as a goal”, said Thiago Silva.
Another reason for criticism of the selection was the fact that Tite had chosen the reserve team against Cameroon, in the last round of the group stage, on Friday. The team was defeated by 1 to 0, but passed in first place anyway, with only three days of rest.
“First, everything was thought through by the coaching staff, because they are high-level games. The fact that we won well and qualified early made this type of choice possible. If there had been another goal from Cameroon or Switzerland in the other game, we would have been beaten a lot here. But we believe in our planning. We were already classified, we knew the responsibility of changing 11 players and when you make a decision like that there is risk”, he began.
“But thanks to God everything went well, apart from the injury of the boys. Our plan is to move forward, with what we have in mind. We are well physically those who didn’t play. In theory, Korea will be more tired, with two and a half days of recovery it’s almost impossible to go back 100%. But it’s the World Cup, I’m sure they’ll be very motivated for that”, he added.
