According to calculations made by the World Health Organization (WHO), at least 90% of the world’s population has some level of immunity to Covid-19.
The information refers to the previous infection or vaccination, according to information given by the director general of the organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
– We are much closer to being able to say that the emergency phase of the pandemic is over, but we are not there yet – he pondered at a press conference this Friday (2).
The WHO’s concern is with the new variant of the virus that can surpass the omicron in number of infections worldwide.
“Gaps in surveillance, testing, sequencing and vaccination continue to create the perfect conditions for the emergence of a worrying variant that can cause significant mortality,” said Tedros.
More than 500 omicron subvariants have been registered, all of them with a high degree of transmission.
