Bend like Beckham director Gurinder Chadha reveals she had to fight to give Aaron Taylor-Johnson one of his first roles. The actor is now well known after starring in Blast off and playing Quicksilver on Avengers: Age of Ultron, in addition to important roles Godzilla🇧🇷 nocturnal animalsand Sony’s next Spider-Man Universe movie Kraven the Hunter🇧🇷 However, one of her earlier roles was in the 2008 film Chadha. Angus, thongs and perfect snoggingin which he played the love interest of the main character’s musician, Robbie Jennings.
Per Deadline, Chadha recently spoke at the Red Sea International Film Festival in Saudi Arabia. During the conversation, she reflects on the star roles she’s given to various actors, including future superstar Keira Knightley, who landed a lead role in 2002. Bend like Beckham🇧🇷 She also shares that she is proud to cast Taylor-Johnson, whom she calls “the next James Bond, we hope,” inside Angus, thongs and perfect snoggingalthough she reveals that the producers initially didn’t want him until she told them “he’s going to be a big talent, a big star🇧🇷 Read the full quote below:
[I also helped launch the career of] the next James Bond, hopefully, Aaron Taylor Johnson, who was in my movie Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging.
I had to fight with Paramount Studios who made that movie. I said, “I really want to cast this guy. I think he’s huge. He will be a great talent, a great star.” And they said, “Well, nobody knows who he is.” And I said, “I know. But trust me, not yet.” And so I climbed it. And of course, now, if he becomes the next Bond, I’ll take all the credit.
Could Aaron Taylor-Johnson really be the next James Bond?
Chadha expresses her hopes that Taylor-Johnson will become the next James Bond twice over in her commentary. This kind of speculation has been a big part of the cultural conversation since Daniel Craig ended his term in office in 2021. No Time to Die🇧🇷 While the producers of the James Bond franchise have revealed that they will eventually recast the infamous super spy and move forward with a new film, there has been no word on which actor could eventually land the role, and fans have suggested they cast everyone from Tom Holland to Idris. Elba for Henry Cavill.
Chadha’s comments aren’t just empty speculation, however. Rumor has it that Taylor-Johnson recently auditioned for producer Barbara Broccoli (the daughter of original Bond producer Albert R. Broccoli) and wowed her, putting her name at the top of the list of potential candidates to take on the mantle of 007 in the as yet untitled film. Title 26🇧🇷 This also dovetails with the producers’ reported desire to cast a slightly younger Bond in his 30s, potentially allowing them to extend his tenure in the role even further than Craig’s, which is now the longest in the franchise.
One thing that could potentially interfere with Taylor-Johnson being cast in the iconic role is her busy schedule. He is currently in production on the David Leitch film The Fall Guy opposite Emily Blunt and Ryan Gosling, as well as her commitment to the promotional tour for Kraven the Hunterwhich premieres on October 6, 2023. The Fall Guy generate a sequence or Kraven became such a success that it requires him to return for further adventures in Sony’s Spider-Man universe, he may not have time for a highly involved production like Title 26🇧🇷
