Saudi Arabia buys Cristiano Ronaldo with huge salary

After being out of a job on the eve of his debut in the World Cup, Cristiano Ronaldo agreed to go to the Al Nassr team, from Saudi Arabia. The salary proposal that the star received was R$ 1.1 billion per year; he is expected to report to the club on 1 January 2023.

The information was confirmed by the Spanish newspaper Marca this Monday morning (5). The idol of the Portuguese national team broke his contract with Manchester City, from England, after playing just one season in the Premier League and a few games in the UEFA Champions League.

The Portuguese’s new contract will be valid for two and a half seasons, that is, two and a half years. The annual salary was set at 200 million euros, which at the current exchange rate is equivalent to just over R$ 1 billion. The amount is three times greater than the salaries of Neymar and Lionel Messi, who work for Paris Saint-Germain.

In addition to monthly salaries, Cristiano will still have advertising incentives. The plan is part of Saudi Arabia’s intention to host a future World Cup.

For the player, it could be an opportunity to take the team to the FIFA Club World Cup through the Asian Super Cup. At Al Nassr, Ronaldo will play alongside Colombian goalkeeper David Ospina and Brazilian striker Anderson Talisca.

Before joining the new club, however, Cristiano Ronaldo has the task of winning Portugal’s first World Cup title. His selection takes the field on Tuesday (6th) against Switzerland, starting at 4 pm (Brasília time). The confrontation will be valid for the round of 16.
