Cristiano Ronaldo will not start for Portugal in the round of 16 of the World Cup against Switzerland. Fernando Santos’ decision came after the coach to publicly admit his dissatisfaction with the outburst of the Portuguese star while being substituted against South Korea, in the last game of Group H, for the first phase of the World Cup🇧🇷 Gonçalo Ramos will start in place of CR7.

The last time the Portuguese striker started a World Cup match on the bench was in the last game of the group stage in 2006, against Mexico.

The Portuguese team is scheduled to face the Swiss with: Diogo Costa; Dalot, Pepe, Rúben Dias and Raphael Guerreiro; Otávio, William Carvalho and Bernardo Silva; Bruno Fernandes, Gonçalo Ramos and João Félix.

The controversy between Cristiano and the coach of Portugal happened when the number 7 left the field in the game against South Korea. Cameras caught Ronaldo with a frown and clearly upset. He left the field saying “What a fucking hurry to get me out” as he handed the captain’s sash to defender Pepe.

The day after the match, Fernando Santos said he saw Cristiano Ronaldo speaking, but assured that it had been for a Korean rival who asked the number 7 shirt to hurry up to leave the pitch, as South Korea was still looking for the result to qualify .

Cristiano Ronaldo has yet to score goals in knockout matches in the five World Cups played and is one goal away from matching Eusébio as the best scorer of the Portuguese national team in World Cups.
