New York City Hall, in the United States, is recruiting a new employee for an unusual function: killing rats.
According to the notice, the salary of the “municipal rodent mitigation director” varies between US$ 120,000 and US$ 170,000 (R$ 624,000 to R$ 884,000, in direct conversion).
The professional will have “one of the most important tasks of the city government” and will carry out the position, which “requires resistance”, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
“Do you have what it takes to do the impossible? A virulent vehemence for vermin? A background in urban planning, project management, or government?” asks the job description.
“And most importantly, do you have the drive, determination and killer instinct to fight the real enemy – New York City’s relentless rat population?”
City Hall describes New York rats as “sly, voracious and high-proliferating” and says they are “legendary for their survival skills”.
The selected candidate will work with agencies in all sectors of government, such as the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, the Department of Education and the Mayor’s Office of Operations.
