Portugal 6 x 1 Switzerland

Portugal is in the quarterfinals of the 2022 World Cup. There was distrust regarding how the team would behave with Cristiano Ronaldo in reserve, but a gala performance today (6) showed that Fernando Santos was right. Gonçalo Ramos, CR7’s substitute in the attack, shone with three goals and commanded the 6-1 defeat of Switzerland, at Estádio Lusail.

With the responsibility of replacing the star player, number 26 was the star of the match. Gonçalo scored a great goal to open the scoring, still in the first half, and put two more balls in the net in the final stage (the last one with a cavadinha). Defender Pepe, winger Raphael Guerreiro and striker Rafael Leão also scored in the rout, and Akanji scored for the Swiss.

With the exciting victory, Portugal will face Morocco in the quarterfinals of the Cup. Earlier, the Africans beat Spain on penalties and advanced. The match will take place on Saturday (10), at 12h, at Al Thumama.

The main news before the ball rolled was that Cristiano Ronaldo would start on the bench. The star, reserve by choice of coach Fernando Santos, saw substitute Gonçalo Ramos shine. With the opportunism of a striker, the number 26 opened the scoring with a great goal. He received it inside the area, spun and released a rocket to surprise the goalkeeper Sommer🇧🇷 In the final stage, he completed a cross to make his second and, with a little dig, registered the hat-trick and crowned the gala performance.

Due to his size, Cristiano Ronaldo draws attention even though he is on the bench. He attracted photographers at the opening of the match, who were more concerned with recording the star than the team entering the field.

In the first half, CR7 saw Gonçalo Ramos score a great goal and Pepe widened. He exploded and went with the other substitutes to celebrate the balls in the teammates’ net. In the final stage, with the team attacking the other way, he couldn’t go to the number 26 shirt, but he appeared smiling and happy with the goal.

On the pitch, star scores offside goal

Cristiano entered the field in the 29th minute of the second, with the result already guaranteed. The crowd celebrated his entry and Pepe gave him the captain’s armband. With the ball, the number 7 even scored a goal, annulled due to offside position.

Rocked by the great goal scored by Gonçalo Ramos, Portugal went on the attack and managed to expand in the first half. Bruno Fernandes took a corner kick, Pepe climbed high and scored the second for the Portuguese, in the 32nd minute.

According to the website Opta, a specialist in football statistics, the defender became the oldest player to score in a World Cup round of 16, aged 39 years and 283 days.

Portugal improves without Cristiano Ronaldo

Many people were curious to see how the national team would react to the choice of Fernando Santos, who left Cristiano Ronaldo on the bench. Without the number 7 shirt, however, the Portuguese improved. João Félix and Bruno Fernandes were given more freedom and striker Gonçalo Ramos added mobility to the attack. With a varied repertoire, the team built the rout against a team known for defending well.

Switzerland has unrecognizable performance

The Swiss are known for having a solid defense, capable of neutralizing powerful attacks. It was like that against Brazil (1-0 for the Brazilian team), in the group stage of the Cup, for example. But, this Tuesday, the team coached by Murat Yakin was unrecognizable, gave a lot of space and was thrashed.
