Radeon RX 7900 XTX GPU is about 15% better than RTX 4080 on Vulkan

But it lags behind when it comes to OpenCL

AMD will launch its new generation of graphics cards based on RDNA 3 next week on the 13th. Radeon RX 7900 XTXwill arrive to compete with the GeForce RTX 4080, according to AMD, and it already appears ahead of the rival by about 15% in the test with the Vulkan API on Geekbench.

The next high-end GPU from AMD managed to score 179,579 in Vulkan, against the almost 155,000 points achieved by the RTX 4080. On the other hand, AMD’s disadvantage is proportional when we talk about the test done in OpenCL, with the RTX 7900 XTX coming in close to 14% below NVIDIA’s GPU.

The graphics card from AMD was in a PC equipped with a ROG Crosshair X670E Extreme motherboard and Ryzen 7 7700X processor, plus 32 GB DDR5.

With the arrival of the RTX 4080, AMD made a point of anticipating how the two companies’ GPU rivalry will be in this new generation. The RTX 4090 will go free with no competition as AMD is targeting the second strongest GPU based on Ada Lovelace.

One of the highlights of the company led by Lisa Su in this dispute is the price. The RX 7900 XTX, the strongest RDNA 3 GPU, arrives at US$ 999, while its rival RTX 4080 costs US$ 1,199 (in theory, suggested retail price by NVIDIA).

In addition, AMD’s GPU has more video memory (24 GB against 16 GB), larger memory interface (384-bit against 256-bit), but the RTX 4080’s memories are faster because they use GDDR6X technology, currently the fastest. Finally, Radeon RX 7900 GPUs will support DisplayPort 2.1, which allows for high resolutions coupled with high frame rates.

The Radeon RX 7900 arrives on December 13th.
