Russia accuses Ukraine of attacking two air bases with drones, killing three servicemen – News

Two Russian air bases, located in the center of the country, were targeted by Ukrainian drone attacks on Monday (5), leaving three dead, the Russian Ministry of Defense said in a statement.

This morning, “the Kiev regime […] attempted to launch bombing raids with Soviet-designed drones on Diaghilevo air base in Ryazan region and Engels air base in Saratov region,” the Russians said.

The ministry accused the Ukrainian forces of wanting to leave “out of service the Russian long-range aircraft”, used in the bombings committed in recent weeks against energy infrastructure located in Ukrainian territory.

Although these drones were intercepted by Russian anti-aircraft defense systems, their remains fell on the facilities of the attacked air bases, causing explosions and “slightly” damaging two planes, according to the statement.

Three Russian servicemen were “mortally wounded” in the attacks, and four more had to be hospitalized, the same source said.

Despite these attacks, “a mass bombing carried out with high-precision weapons” around 12:00 GMT (9:00 GMT) hit 17 targets in Ukrainian military installations and energy infrastructure linked to the country’s forces, the statement said.
