The year 2022 is not over yet, but clubs are already moving behind the scenes to plan next season. In the midst of this, Botafogo and Vasco, led by SAF’s, aligned their interests and united against Flamengo and Ferj (Federation of the State of Rio de Janeiro).
Already thinking about the 2023 Carioca Championship, Botafogo and Vasco began to question the division of the competition’s broadcasting rights. This is because the proposal predicts that Flamengo will receive practically twice as much compared to the three main rivals.
Last week, the amount that Flamengo will receive for the rights to Cariocão became public: R$ 18 million. After confirming the amount, Vasco stated that it would not sign the terms agreement with Ferj.
In addition to expressing opposition to the proposal made to Flamengo, Vasco harshly criticized the board of Rubro-Negro. In an official statement, Cruz-Maltino said that Rubro-Negro “seems not to have understood that football is not played alone”.
As soon as Vasco publicly manifested itself against Flamengo and Ferj, executives from 777 Partners, SAF that manages Cruz-Maltino, got in touch with John Textor. Both administrators aligned the speech and, soon after, Botafogo also informed that it would not sign the terms of Cariocão.
WHAT ABOUT FLUMINENSE?
Along with Botafogo and Vasco, Fluminense, discreetly, bought the speech. Tricolor, however, has a partnership with Flamengo in the administration of Maracanã. Therefore, he should not “hit head on” in an incisive way, despite showing discontent.
FLAMINGO IN SILENCE
Target of the dissatisfaction of the other clubs of greater expression of the Carioca Championship, Flamengo has not yet manifested itself on what happened. The Rubro-Negro, at no time, issued any kind of statement refuting the pronouncements of rivals.
