Newspaper says youtuber called Eto’o ‘negro de m’ before aggression

The president of the Cameroonian Football Federation, Samuel Eto’o, would have been called a ‘monkey of ****’ by the youtuber Sadouni SM before having attacked him, according to the newspaper ‘Marca’. The Spanish daily said that people close to the former player said that the Algerian fan would still have said “go back to your banana plantation”. Today (6), the 41-year-old former striker publicly apologized for the aggression and reported that he suffered harassment from the man, but did not mention such an alleged offense.

Yesterday (5), after the match between Brazil and South Korea, for the round of 16 of the World Cup in Qatar, Eto’o hit a violent kick in the youtuber’s head at the exit of the 974 Stadium, in Doha. A video published by the Spanish newspaper ‘La Opinón’ shows the moment when the aggression takes place (watch below🇧🇷

According to ‘Marca’, the Cameroonian leader was assisting fans who asked for photos and autographs when he would have suffered prejudice. “After the fan’s insult, Eto’o went from being happy to going to confront this person,” wrote the publication.

After the episode, the fan in question said on social media that he only asked about the referee of the Algeria-Cameroon match and that he filed a complaint against the former player. The Qatar Penal Code provides for a penalty of one year in prison, plus a fine, for the crime of assault.

The video resonated internationally and made Eto’o speak out. In a statement, the poster boy for the Qatar Cup asked “sincere apologies” for having “reacted in a way that does not match” his personality. He also said that he has been the target of provocations since Cameroon’s controversial victory over Algeria, in the African Qualifiers, which left the opposing team out of the World Cup in Qatar.

Hired by the Supreme Committee of Qatar, Eto’o helps promote the Worlds in the press. The report sought out the Supreme Committee for Organization and Legacy, the government arm that organizes the World Cup and has the former player under contract, but the body preferred not to comment. FIFA was also contacted, but did not respond to the report’s question.

“My sincere apologies. Last December 5th, after the match between Brazil and Korea, I had a fight with a person who was probably an Algerian fan. I would like to apologize for having lost control and reacted in a way that does not match my personality. I apologize to the public for this unfortunate incident.

I promise to continue resisting the relentless provocation and daily harassment of some Algerian fans. In fact, since the match between Cameroon and Algeria [pelas Eliminatórias Africanas], on March 29th, in Blida, I have been the target of insults and cheating allegations without any evidence. During this Cup, Cameroon fans have been harassed and harassed for the same reason.

I want to highlight that the scenario of Algeria’s defeat was cruel, but perfectly within the rules and ethics of our sport. All appeals made by the Algerian federation to the competent jurisdictions were rejected. I therefore call on the authorities and the Algerian federation to take responsibility and put an end to this unpleasant climate before a more serious tragedy happens. For the Algerian fans, I wish them to find peace and deal with the disappointment of a painful defeat.”
