asteroid city takes place in a fictional, deserted American town in the 1950s. In the feature, the Junior Stargazer/Space Cadet convention tour (organized to bring together students and parents from all over the country for a mentoring event and a school competition) is disrupted spectacularly by historical events that change the world.
