In search of reinforcements for the next season, São Paulo is close to signing striker Wellington Rato, from Atlético-GO. According to the player’s manager, the parties have already settled the procedures for Rato to wear the tricolor shirt in 2023.
“Wellington was very honored by such traditional clubs trying to sign him. However, he always had the dream of playing for São Paulo, it’s something old. The possibility of working with Rogério Ceni, with Muricy, also decisively weighed in his choice for the tricolor”, said Renan Coelho Costa, manager of Wellington Rato.
The report got in touch with Adson Batista, president of Atlético-GO, who denied the deal. “It’s not closed yet,” said the agent from Dragão. “We have a better proposal from Fortaleza and we are talking. With São Paulo we need to agree on the amount to be paid and the payment method. We dropped to Series B and we are negotiating respecting our interests. We lost money with the fall and we need to organize ourselves” Adson explained.
Rato’s willingness to play for São Paulo could make the difference for the deal to come out with the São Paulo club. The team offered BRL 4.5 million to have the player, and wants to pay in installments. Fortaleza, which competes with Tricolor, beckons with a slightly better proposal and payment in cash.
This season, Wellington Rato was one of the highlights of Atlético-GO. He entered the field 70 times, scored 15 goals and distributed eight assists.
São Paulo has already signed goalkeeper Rafael and striker Pedrinho with a view to next season’s competitions.
