After 2 years of the pandemic, events in virtual format, hybrids, many uncertainties, CCXP 2022 takes place with colossal stands, many international surprise attractions but leaves a feeling of almost there.
The event that emerged in 2015 with the promise of having the same importance and relevance as Comic Con in San Diego and New York, innovated and changed the scene of nerd events in Brazil. The public came to expect great attractions and the presence of Hollywood stars, which was previously restricted to TV and few events that had the capital to do so.
Colossal structures mark post-pandemic edition
The size of the stands represent the investment and credibility of the brands at the fair, and each year at CCXP a company stood out. In this edition, Netflix stood out with one of the largest and most beautiful stands at the fair. Occupying a considerable space, visitors to the fair could participate in activations, such as the “Round 6” series, one of the most popular. Other companies have also invested heavily in technology and visuals, such as Warner, Paramount and Universal.
HBO was also present with a large and interactive stand, however, several users complained about the lack of organization of activations. Another highlight was Prime Video, which set up a very beautiful stand for its current series “The Rings of Power”. The event was even attended by part of the cast, with emphasis on actor Ismael Cruz Córdova, who plays the elf Arondir. He reported in an emotional speech that he suffered a lot of retaliation from audiences in some countries for being a black actor playing an elf. Still in time, the actor described that from Brazil he received a lot of support and love.
The stages were also attractions in their own right. Palco Tribo Arena Gamer, Palco Creators and Palco Omelete. The latter, even open to the general public, was literally the stage for great moments. Among the highlights are the presence of Jenna Ortega, Wandinha from the Netflix series of the same name, and also the cast of “The Last Of Us“, with Pedro Pascal, Bella Ramsey, Gabriel Luna, Merle Dandridge and the co-creators and executive producers of the series.
Brands invest in activations
Several brands participated in this edition, from digital banks to open and closed TV stations. As was the case with SBT and Globo Play. Silvio Santos’ broadcaster invested in interactivity and instagrammable activations, a trend at this fair. Participants could take pictures with the cast of the famous “pranks” in addition to having scenarios to be able to take a picture. A mini museum was also set up, highlighting the clothes and dolls used in the pranks.
Another stand that had a very nice highlight was the chili beans, the largest network specializing in sunglasses in Latin America. Caito Maia’s company presented to the public at the fair more than 690 products from its nerd collections, such as Batman, Friends and the recently launched, Naruto. They also invested in an activation where the visitor could choose one of several scenarios and take a special photo, even guaranteeing a poster of this photo printed on the spot.
attractions and guests
This was perhaps the most complicated event for the fair in terms of guests. After all, the world is still recovering from the pandemic, which paralyzed almost all sectors of the world economy, including audiovisual. The number of launches and projects is reduced and returning to activities now. Throughout 2022, customers demanded disclosure of guest names, something that only happened in the last two months. Including, several names that stepped on the event’s stages were not even announced, and arrived by surprise.
However, it is obvious that those who participated in the panels left very satisfied. Among the names that participated, Tenoch Huerta, Keanu Reeves, Alexander Ludwig, Katherine McNamara, John Rhys-Davies, Edgar Vivar, Shelley Hennig and Colton Haynes, Chris Pine, Regé-Jean Page, Hugh Grant, Justice Smith, Jonathan Goldstein, John Francis Daley, Jeremy Latcham, Chloe Grace Moretz, and even a show with Alok.
The event managed to fulfill its mission of returning to activity after so many difficulties and the public reacted well. Of course, several complaints still permeate the post-event, such as the huge queues in all sectors. Food prices, which were absurdly more expensive. Prices could reach up to R$ 100.00 in snack combos.
Other items were also priced well above average, such as T-shirts, stationery, accessories and collectibles. Not even department stores like Riachuelo (which had a Fan Lab stand at the event) and Pernambucanas managed to have affordable prices, when compared to their stores.
