Dog is spotted inside backpack in airport x-ray machine

Transportation security authorities in Wisconsin, in the United States, were surprised to find a dog inside a passenger’s backpack through the airport’s x-ray machine.

“A dog accidentally went through the X-rays,” the TSA Great Lakes Transportation Administration tweeted about the incident, which took place this week at Dane County Regional Airport in Madison.

ABC affiliate WISN in Milwaukee said the owner had forgotten to inform authorities about the animal’s presence in her purse. However, the tweet did not specify whether she was intentionally trying to smuggle the pup or simply forgot about the animal in her luggage.

The case sparked controversy on social media. “Poor dog,” commented one Twitter user, while another fumed: “That dog owner needs to be arrested for treating her fur baby so cruelly.”

Another person also accused the owner of trying to avoid taxing the pet. “It is inhumane to carry a pet in a sealed backpack, which is obviously not airline approved for transporting a pet.” And she added, “She was probably trying not to pay the necessary fee for transporting pets. Sick.”

Amidst the controversy, the TSA reminded those traveling with pets to “notify the airline and inquire about the rules.” In addition, the entity posted a video instructing pet owners on how to properly travel with their pets.

“At the checkpoint, remove the pet from the suitcase and send all articles, including the empty transport box, to be tracked in the machine”, explained the travel authorities. The status of the animal after the bust was not reported.
