After getting very close to saying goodbye to Vasco, left-back Edimar finally settled on staying at the club for the 2023 season. The player had an automatic renewal clause if the club rose to Série A do Brasileiro and, although he had already even spoken in a farewell tone, he decided to stay in São Januário.
Edimar was already considered a card out of the deck, even with his contract providing for automatic renewal. Much criticized by the fans and even a victim of death threats, the player considered leaving the club. Some conversations between his managers and the board took place to deal with an eventual agreement, but the player’s desire to stay weighed.
In addition, Vasco’s attempts to seek another left-back on the market failed. Juninho Capixaba, observed by the club after the end of the Brasileirão, left Fortaleza for Bragantino. On the other hand, Reinaldo, from São Paulo, was also wanted, but ended up going to Grêmio. In this way, Edimar returned to the Cruzmaltine plans.
The left-back played 50 games for Vasco in 2022 and, therefore, will have the opportunity to increase this mark next year. Edimar’s permanence becomes, thus, one less problem for the new coach Maurício Barbieri. After all, only Riquelme (still injured) and Paulo Victor were the available options for the position.
