THE NordPass – password manager service – released this week a report with 200 most used passwords by people in different parts of the world. In the document presented by the company, the first place in the ranking was the sequence “123456”. An unusual combination is the word “Brazil”which ranks second on the list of popular passwords.
The list of the 200 most commonly used passwords was made from a database of credentials that were exposed in a data breach. The experts also analyzed the number of times they found the password in the database and the time it would take to be discovered in a hacker attack.
In addition to Brazil, four other countries also had the password “123456” as the number one in its ranking. They are: Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Spain.
“The results show that it is still essential to make people aware of the importance of creating long, difficult to predict and unique passwords for each account or online service. Furthermore, people should know that all of this can be achieved using a password manager on the computer or telephone, as these services cover all these needs”, said the head of ESET’s Research Laboratory, Camilo Gutiérrez Amaya.
THE NordPass guides people to seeregularly check which accounts are still in use and which are no longer used. According to the company, unused accounts can put online security at risk as the user may not realize that they have been violated.
