Rafael played 31 games for Atlético

Rafael should be announced soon as a new signing for So Paulo. Atlético agreed to sell the 33-year-old player for around R$ 5 million. The goalkeeper, who arrived at Galo in 2020 to take over the title, played a few times with the alvinegra shirt. In total, there were six titles.

Serie A club signings for the 2023 season

Rafael was signed by Atltico in March 2020. He had just left archrival Cruzeiro through legal channels. At Galo, he arrived to be a starter. A day after his announcement, however, the club hired coach Jorge Sampaoli, who wanted to use a goalkeeper who worked better with his feet.

On September 10 of that year, Atlético announced the signing of Everson. At that moment, Rafael added 15 games for the club. Then starter, he had just been expelled in a duel against Santos, in Vila Belmiro. Chance for the new hire, who took over the position and never lost.

In the 2020 season, Rafael still entered the field twice more – Everson tested positive for COVID-19.

In 2021, Rafael lived a frustrating year. In his fourth game of the season, he suffered a serious injury to his right shoulder and was sidelined for around five months. When he returned, he celebrated titles with Atlético, but only played once.

This year, the goalkeeper had nine opportunities to enter the field. All of them due to the absence of the starter – call-up, suspension or Everson being spared.

Even playing little, Rafael had his contract renewed by Atlético this year. The bond, which would end at the end of the season, was extended until the end of 2025. This extension allowed Galo to receive for the sale of the athlete, as he could sign a pre-contract with another club in July.

In total, Rafael played 31 games for Atlético and conceded 21 goals. In 16 of these games, he left the field without being leaked. Six titles were won: three state titles (2020, 21 and 22), Brazilian Championship (2021), Copa do Brasil (2021) and Supercopa do Brasil (2022).
