São Paulo forwarded the hiring of goalkeeper Rafael, from Atlético-MG. The 33-year-old player is a bet by coach Rogério Ceni and will arrive at Morumbi to fight for position with Felipe Alves and Jandrei in the tricolor goal. The information was published by Blog do Jorge Nicola and confirmed by Sports Gazette🇧🇷
Rafael is expected to sign a three-year contract with São Paulo, which demonstrates the trust and expectation that the club will place in the goalkeeper to finally end distrust in the tricolor goal in 2023.
Rafael worked with Rogério Ceni during the short period that the coach commanded Cruzeiro in an attempt to rid the club of relegation, in 2019. São Paulo had been monitoring the player for some time and decided to make an investment in this transfer window.
With the deal well under way, Rafael will become São Paulo’s second reinforcement for 2023. This Wednesday, the club announced the arrival of striker Pedrinho, from Lokomotiv, Russia, on loan valid until the end of next year.
São Paulo remains attentive to market opportunities to strengthen its squad, which has been undergoing a major overhaul with the departure of seven athletes. Wellington Rato, from Atlético-GO, is another target of Tricolor in this window, but the club deals with competition from Cruzeiro, Fortaleza and Vasco for the midfielder.
