Atlético may soon repatriate a right-back to defend the club from next season. This is Gilberto, formerly of Fluminense, who currently plays for Benfica, from Portugal. During participation in the Round Table, in Itatiaia, executive director Rodrigo Caetano had already signaled that the club would reinforce its position.
The information, first brought by the journalist Venê Casagrande and that already reverberates in ‘Terrinha’, points out that the negotiations are in progress and that the outcome can be happy for the alvinegro. Previously, Vasco and Grêmio also probed the 29-year-old player, but they are scared by the 4 million Euros (about R$ 22 million) asked by the Portuguese to sell him.
As found by Itatiaia, especially after the executive’s statement, the club is looking for a new name for the position, already thinking about the possible departure of Guga, Mariano’s reserve. The 24-year-old player wants to breathe new air, seeking to have more opportunities on the field and, thus, be able to be called up to the Brazilian national team again.
A few days ago, Vasco showed interest in Guga, but, so far, no official proposal. He was also probed at Betis, Spain.
“Gilberto is very coveted, let’s see what can happen. His future depends on a lot, on Benfica and also on him, but he is very happy at the club. He likes Benfica a lot and has helped the team to have a very successful season. good – said Gilberto’s manager, Allan Espinosa, to the Portuguese newspaper O Jogo.
The report sought out the agent, who, via Whatsapp, said he will not comment on the matter.
