Messi’s team will face Croatia next Tuesday
Argentina defeated the Netherlands on penalties this Friday (9) and advanced to the semifinals of the World Cup in Qatar. Now, the Argentines will face Croatia, who defeated Brazil earlier.
In a balanced match, the Latin American team opened the scoring in the 35th minute of the first half, with Nahuel Molina, in a start of the game without great chances and emotions at the Lusail stadium.
Already in the final stage, Acuña received a trip from Dumfries inside the area and the referee scored a penalty. The playmaker Lionel Messi converted and expanded for the Argentines.
With the partial result, Argentina was on the way to qualifying, when they saw Weghorst head the first post and discount for the Dutch.
After the goal, the Netherlands team began to put pressure on the opponent. In the final 43 minutes, widespread confusion invaded the field, after Paredes made two tackles in a row, knocked down a player and kicked the ball against the Netherlands bench. At the time, the players attacked the Argentine.
Soon after, in a rehearsed free kick, Weghorst tied the match. In overtime, despite some clear goal chances for both teams, the score remained the same.
With two saves by goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez, the Argentine team won 4-3 on penalties and secured the classification. Now, the confrontation between Argentina and Croatia for the semifinal of the World Cup in Qatar will take place next Tuesday (13), at 4 pm (Brasília time). 🇧🇷
