Qatar – FIFA announced this Thursday afternoon that the Brazilian Wilton Pereira Sampaio will referee the duel between France and England, this Saturday, at 4 pm (Brasília time), for the quarterfinals of the World Cup, at the Al Bayt stadium . He will also have Brazilians Bruno Boschilia and Bruno Pires as assistants.
With Wilton’s lineup, the Brazilian arbitration guarantees a record in Qatar: it will be the first time that a World Cup edition will feature five games refereed by Brazilians. The account does not include games that only had assistants from Brazil, such as Neuza Back, who was part of the trio led by French Stéphanie Frappart in the match between Germany and Costa Rica, still in the group stage.
The match between France and England will be the fourth refereed by Wilton Pereira Sampaio in Qatar. Previously, he coached Senegal v Netherlands, Poland v Saudi Arabia and Netherlands v United States. Raphael Claus was responsible for leading England against Iran, in the first round of the group stage.
Highly rated by FIFA, Wilton Pereira Sampaio can referee the World Cup final. For this, it depends on the Brazilian team not reaching the decision.
