Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) announced, on the morning of Friday (9), the elected senator Flávio Dino (PSB) as the new Ministry of Justice and Public Security.
“A great companion, with a consecrated political history, who will be the Minister of Justice. It will help fix a lot of things in this country”, said Lula.
The announcement of the initial list took place at the Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil (CCBB), headquarters of the transition of government, shortly before the game between Brazil and Croatia for the quarterfinals of the World Cup.
During the transition of government, the former governor was the main spokesperson for the Justice and Security WG – announcing, for example, the government’s intention to revoke decrees that facilitated the purchase and carrying of weapons in the country.
In addition to being governor of Maranhão for two terms, Dino was a federal judge, federal deputy and president of Embratur. He is the brother of Deputy Attorney General of the Republic Nicolao Dino.
Lula decided to keep the Ministry of Justice and Public Security together in a single portfolio in his government. Dino was against separation. He defended keeping Public Security as a secretary of the ministry and “strengthening” it, giving it more power in the structure of the portfolio.
Ana Paula Lobato will take over in the Senate
With the confirmation of former governor Flávio Dino in the Ministry of Justice, the vice mayor of Pinheiro, Ana Paula Lobato (PSB), 37 years old, wife of Othelino Neto, president of the Legislative Assembly of Maranhão, will occupy the vacancy of Maranhão in the Federal Senate, since she is the first alternate on Dino’s ticket.
In the Senate, Ana Paulo will replace Roberto Rocha, who was not re-elected, and will have Senator Eliziane Gama (Cidadania) and Weverton Rocha (PDT) as bench companions.
As the Executive takes office on January 1st and the Congress takes office only in February, this means that even before assuming the seat in parliament, Dino should already be in government. The former governor will only take leave to take office in the position he was elected in 1,889,920 and then return to Esplanada dos Ministérios, and Ana Paulo will assume the mandate for the next four years.
In addition to being Deputy Mayor of Pinheiro, Ana Paula coordinates, in the Legislative Assembly, the Group of Wives of Deputies of the State of Maranhão (Gedema), an entity with philanthropic activities.
