It was revealed today by Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences nominees for the most important award in cinema.
Last year, the Apple TV+ debuted at the Academy Awards with six nominations. This year, the streaming service did not have as many nominations, guaranteeing only two nominations at the Oscar 2023.
The first one was for the Christmas tale “The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse” (“The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse”)indicated as Best Animated Short Film. Based on the book of the same name bestseller from the author Charlie Mackesy — who illustrated everything by hand —, the animation was executive produced by Jony Ive and was a co-production between Apple TV+ and the BBC.
In addition to the animation, an expectation that came true was the indication of Brian Tyree Henry in the category Best Supporting Actorfor her praised performance in the film “Causeway” (“Ticket”)in which he acted alongside Jennifer Lawrence.
Apple TV+ made history last year with “In the Rhythm of the Heart” (“CODA”), when it was the first streaming service to have a title winning the night’s biggest award, Best Picture. It was believed that this would be repeated this year with the great film starring Will Smith, “Emancipation – A Story of Freedom” – but the title and the actor were not even nominated. So, we can only hope that the two nominated titles manage to win this time.
The award ceremony of 95th Academy Awards will be held at the Dolby Theater at Ovation Hollywood on March 12tha Sunday.
Apple TV+ is available on the Apple TV app in over 100 countries and regions, whether on iPhones, iPads, Apple TVs, Macs, smart TVs or online — as well as on devices such as Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Chromecast with Google TV, PlayStation and Xbox consoles. The service costs BRL 14.90 per month, with a seven-day free trial period. For a limited time, anyone who buys and activates a new iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, Mac or iPod touch gets three months of Apple TV+. It is also part of the company’s Apple One subscription package.
