On the occasion of International Women’s Daybetter known as 8M, Disney Plus premiered the docuseries M Powerwhich has the production of Zoe Saldaña (Avatar), and which shows the arduous process of how Marvel built the stories and personalities of the most outstanding heroines of its films.
Why is M Power worth watching?
At first it might seem that this is similar to behind the scenes, however, what makes it enriching and different from what we have seen is the participation of the minds behind it. Black Panther, Captain Marvel, WandaVision and Guardians of the Galaxy, who recount the changes that were made to transfer the characters from the comics to the big screen; in addition to research on different cultures, and the creation of some of the most outstanding costumes of the study led by Kevin Feige.
Each episode is presented by the protagonists of these stories, recounting part of their origins and how they identify with their respective characters, and what their representation meant not only for them but also for other people; as each episode shows the testimony of the lives that changed and inspiredmaking a brief account of how in the past the role of women in this genre was always minimized (the damsel in danger) and sexualized.
Scarlet Witch: the MVP of the docuseries
Without a doubt, the third episode focused on Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) is the most outstanding, and it is that in addition to showing the evolution of the character from Age of Ultron (2015) to Doctor Strange: in the Multiverse of Madness (2022) , also offers a reflection on how this is the most humanized character when presenting his mental health problems.
Thus, Jac Schaeffer (creator of WandaVision) expresses how the episodes were created based on the stages of grief: the first three deal with denial, moving on to anger, depression and finally acceptance (in the last two episodes); demonstrating why this show continues to be one of the best Marvel premieres on Disney plus.
The future of Marvel is feminist
What started out as standalone stories coalesced for a brief moment into Avengers: Endgame (2019), when the A-Force was made present. Although the scene has been criticized over the years, the truth is that it is a strong statement in terms of the new phases of Marvel, which is why we have seen the birth of different heroines in the MCU such as Mighty Thor (Natalie Portman) ms marvel (Iman Vellani), Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld) or Iron Heart (Dominique Thorne).
To that will only be added the appearance of the Invisible Woman in Fantastic Four, and inevitably the Storm and Jean Grey. While that happens, for now we have to wait until November 2023 when The Marvels is released, the film that brings together Captain Marvel (Brie Larson), Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) and Ms. Marvel. @mundiario
