Elsa Pataky, wife of Chris Hemworth, had a few words to say about the rumors that Miley Cyrus’ song ‘Flowers’ is about her brother-in-law Liam Hemsworth.
Pataky addressed the hit song during a recent interview with the Spanish publication Europe Press while attending an event in Spain for the shoe brand Gioseppo, of which she is an ambassador. She made the comments a month after fans first speculated that “Flowers” had multiple references to Cyrus’s ex.
During his chat with the outlet, Pataky addressed Liam and Cyrus’ 2019 breakup and showed support for his brother-in-law.
“It’s a very old topic for us,” he replied. “If anyone should talk, it should be Liam, but I think she can do whatever she wants.”
Asked if he keeps in touch with Cyrus, Pataky replied: “Not anymore, because we live in different countries and it’s hard.”
Prior to the breakup, Pataky, who has been married to Chris since 2010, appeared to be close with Cyrus. In fact, in 2016, the two women got matching tattoos of a small wave design.
Pataky mentioned their matching tattoos during an interview with vogue australia in 2020, saying that “I don’t regret any of them, they are symbols and I love having them and they remind me of those moments.”
Outside of Pataky, Miley’s sister Brandi Cyrus has also publicly addressed rumors about ‘Flowers’ and her connection to Liam. During a January episode of his podcast with Adam Wells Your Favorite Thing, asked if the speculation was true and said: “I am not here to say what is true and what is not. I’m letting it happen… It’s a personal experience, only Miley knows the truth”.
When ‘Flowers’ was released, fans were quick to share their theories about how the song relates to Liam. For example, Cyrus released the song on January 13, which is her ex-husband’s birthday.
Fans also believed that the self-love theme in the chorus was a reference to the Bruno Mars song, ‘When I Was Your Man,’ which Liam allegedly dedicated to Cyrus while they were together. In her song, Cyrus sang, “I can buy myself flowers… And I can hold my own hand” while Mars’ lyrics read, “I should have bought you flowers / And held your hand.”

Another viral theory is that the song refers to the alleged infidelity in the marriage of Cyrus and Liam. some fans claimed that the music video was filmed in the house where the star of The Hunger Games he cheated on Cyrus with 14 different women.
While Cyrus and Liam have not addressed these cheating allegations, the singer revealed in 2019 that cheating was not the reason her marriage ended.
“I can admit a lot of things, but I refuse to admit that my marriage ended because of infidelity. Liam and I have been together for a decade. I’ve said it before and it’s still true, I love Liam and always will,” she tweeted at the time.
The former couple first got engaged in 2012, before calling it off in 2013 and re-engaging in 2016. They officially tied the knot in December 2018 and announced their separation seven months later. Liam filed for divorce in August 2019 and their separation was finalized in February 2020.
