His fifth studio album will follow the same trend of his ancestors by being named with a mathematical symbol: “-“(“Substract”). In this way, Sheeran has completed his goal of naming his first five albums based on this theme.
According to the British artist, the fact that the album is named based on the subtraction symbol is not free, because unlike his previous projects, “Substract” will detail quite personal and even depressive moments in his life.

The album will be personal odyssey by the artist’s thoughts throughout his career, these thoughts will touch on topics such as fear, depression and anxiety.
I’ve been working on Substract for a decade, trying to carve out the perfect acoustic album, writing and recording hundreds of songs with a clear vision of what it should be. Then, in early 2022, a series of events changed my life, my mental health and ultimately the way I viewed music and art,” he confessed in an Instagram post.
The project will have the participation of the renowned music producer Aaron Desnerwho has previously worked with Taylor Swift on their albums “folklore”, “evermore” and “Midnights”.
“Substract” will be published on May 5th.
