A month before the release, he has opened up on the channel in the deepest and most personal interview of him in Rolling Stone magazine.

Sheeran talks about his relationship with death, how he sought help to overcome depression, his problems with substance abuse and also revealed that he has two more albums ready to see the light.

In the interview with Brian Hiatt, Sheeran has confessed that after the death of his friends, SBTV founder Jamal Edwards and Australian cricketer Shane Warne in 2022, “I didn’t want to live anymore”.

“I’ve had that thought all my life. You’re under the waves drowning you. You’re trapped in that thing and you can’t get out of it.” he has added.

Sheeran, 32, said that worried that thoughts were “selfish”, especially now that he is the father of two girls. “I feel really embarrassed about that.”

it was his wife Cherry Seaborn the one who encouraged him to receive therapy for the first time. “Nobody talks about their feelings where I come from. People find it weird to go to therapy in England. I think it’s very helpful to be able to talk to someone and just get it off my chest and not feel guilty about getting it off my chest. Obviously I’ve lived a very privileged life So my friends were always looking at me like, ‘Oh, it’s not that bad.'”

“Help is not a button that you push, where you’re automatically fine,” he continued. It’s something that’s always going to be there and you have to learn how to handle it.”

In the interview Sheeran explains that was having dinner with Taylor Swfit and Joe Alwyn the night before Edwards’ death and that he came to write to him about a future recording of a video.

The death of his friend caused him to fall into a depression similar to the one he had experienced in other stages of his life, beginning when he was bullied at school for being different and not being good at sports.

He admits to having had problems with drugs

Edwards died of a heart attack after taking cocaine and drink alcohol at age 31. His death too led Sheeran to kick a drug habit that he had started in his mid-20s and about which not much is known. “I remember being at a festival and saying, ‘Well, if all my friends are doing it, it can’t be that bad,'” she said, without naming the substance. “First it’s something you try, then it becomes a habit that you do once a week and then once a day and then twice a day and then no alcohol. It just became bad vibes.”

“Never never, I would never touch anything againbecause that’s how Jamal died,” he said. “And it would be disrespectful to his memory to even come close.”

Sheeran said he also stopped drinking alcohol before the birth of his first daughter in 2021 because “I was drinking too much” and realized he didn’t want to be drunk when his daughter was born and he also didn’t want to be drunk around her. “Drinking a couple of beers is one thing but having a bottle of vodka is quite another,” he said, adding that “You are already 30 years old, you have gone to a party, you have had that experience, be happy with it and end it”.

In the interview he also talks about the problems he has had with binge eating and his way of eating. “I’m aware anyway, but you get into an industry where you’re compared to every other pop star,” she says. “I was on the One Direction wave, and I was like, ‘Well, why don’t I have abs?’ And I was like, ‘Oh, because you love kebabs and you drink beer.’ Then you do songs with Justin Bieber and Shawn Mendes. All these people have fantastic figures. And I was always like, ‘Well, why am I so. .. fat?'”, has been sincere.

Sheeran said he found himself “doing what Elton says in his book: binging, and then coming back,” apparently alluding to what his friend Elton John refers to as bulimia.

Today he assures that “I have a real eating problem. I am a true compulsive eater. I am a compulsive of everything. But now I am more of a compulsive athlete and a compulsive father. And a compulsive worker.”

He has much more music ready to see the light

Subtract was initially intended to be an acoustic album of songs written over a decade, but Sheeran scrapped it, instead only featuring songs written in February 2022, in the wake of Edwards’ death, his wife’s cancer diagnosis, and about the trial for the alleged plagiarism of ‘Shape of You’ that he ended up winning.

He also revealed that he has a lot more music ready to see the light included. a full album with reggaeton star J Balvin, with which he has already released two songs, recorded last year. He also has another entire album created with Aaron Dessner and upcoming collaborations with Pharrell, Shakira, Devlin, David Guetta, Benny Blanco and Justin Bieber.

‘Subtract’ is the last album in Sheeran’s series of albums with mathematical titles: +, x, ÷, = and -. His next set of albums will be named after another category of symbols, he explained to Rolling Stone. He also revealed that he is preparing a final album that will be released posthumously. “I want to slowly make this album that is, quote unquote, ‘perfect’ for the rest of my life, adding songs here and there. And writing in my will that after I die, it comes out.”
