Duets are a great way to switch up our content on TikTok and collaborate with friends and even influencers. Here we explain how to make duets on TikTok easily.
If you have spent any time in TikTok, then you have more than likely seen videos where multiple clips are stacked next to each other. In them we can see people dancing, singing and interacting with other users. This function is called “duo”.
A duet on TikTok is when a user records their own video alongside another user’s original video to respond, react, or add something new.

Some people have used this feature to participate in virtual vocal duets or even choirs, where each video is a new vocal line or instrument.
If influencers or famous TikTokers allow duets, it also means that you can technically appear in a video alongside your favorite creator, and sometimes they might even end up watching and reacting to it.

The possibilities of making duets on TikTok are practically endless, and the process is very simple.
How to make duets on TikTok?
- We look on TikTok for the video with which we want to make a duet.
- On the right side of the video there will be a series of symbols. We click on the arrow symbol and we will access the share menu.
- In the bottom row of options, there is a button that has two overlapping circles. It’s the duo button.
- We click on the duo button and we will access the recording screen.
- We record the video with the red button at the bottom of the screen, and the video will be played along with the original video.
How to change the duo design
You may have seen some users use several different layouts, changing the position of their video in relation to the original.

Some of these collages can end up looking quite complex, but there’s an easier way to change up our duo’s layout than simply combining left and right.
- We open the duo as we have explained above
- Before filming anything, we click on the side layout button that looks like a square with a line down the middle.
- We select the type of design we want to use.
- Once selected, we click on the video again and record as we wish.

How to record a TikTok duet with audio
Sometimes when recording a duet there is no sound over the original video, but this problem can be solved quite easily.
- We open the duo screen normally.
- Before starting the recording, we select the microphone option in the sidebar.
- If there is a diagonal line through the microphone symbol, it means that we are muted and if we record, only the sound of the original video will be heard.
