The retrospective and commemorative exhibition on the occasion of the centenary of the Spanish Basketball Federation “Our History, Our Future” opened its doors yesterday at HM Regla de Leon Hospital. The purpose of the exhibition, which will close on September 15 in the capital of León, is to introduce visitors to the rich history of Spanish basketball in the men’s and women’s categories and is divided into four thematic areas: “First Steps”. since the creation of the Federation in 1923, the “European Championship”, which will consider the participation of Spain in the continental tournament since 1935, the “World Championships”, starting with the one held in 1950 in Argentina.
In the fourth and final section of the “Olympic Games”, visitors will be able to remember the historic first medal won by our country in Los Angeles in 1984 against the North American team led by Michael Jordan until the year of the double in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 with a medal, won by both elections.
The opening of this exhibition was attended by the Territorial Director of the northwestern part of HM Hospitales Ricardo Aller, the medical director of HM Hospitales in Castile and León, Dr. Jesús Sas, the Mayor of León, José Antonio Diez, Member of the Council of Sports of the City Council of León, Vicente Canuria, President of the Basketball Federation of Castile and Leon Oscar Castañeda and the general director of said federation, Jose Alberto Martin.
The president of the Basketball Federation of Castile and León stated that “León lives basketball with a particular passion and is the city where the golden letters of Castile and León basketball and therefore national basketball are written.”
The Mayor of León thanked HM Hospitales and the Spanish Federation for supporting this exhibition, “which evokes and reminds us of very good moments in Spanish basketball.”
