Netflix continues to expand its catalog with great titles and this time it has done so with the addition of the movie “Little Women” (2019), directed by Greta Gerwig.
The film is based on the novel of the same name written by Louisa May Alcott in 1868, which follows the lives of the March sisters and their different aspirations in life during the American Civil War.
“Little Women” has a luxury cast, led by Saoirse Ronan in the role of Jo March, a passionate and rebellious writer who seeks to find her place in the world. Emma Watson plays Meg, her older sister, while Florence Pugh plays Amy, her younger sister.
The cast also features Eliza Scanlen as Beth, Laura Dern as Marmee March, Timothée Chalamet as Laurie, Louis Garrel as Friedrich Bhaer, Meryl Streep as Aunt March, Bob Odenkirk as Mr. March, Tracy Letts as Mr. Dashwood, James Norton as John Brooke , Chris Cooper as Mr. Laurence, Dash Barber as Fred Vaughn, Maryann Plunkett as Mrs. Kirke, Hadley Robinson as Sallie Gardiner Moffat, Abby Quinn as Annie Moffat and Sasha Frolova as Mrs. Hummel.
Gerwig’s film is a modern adaptation of the classic novel, with a non-linear narrative that presents different moments in the lives of the March sisters and how their experiences have led them to where they are. The film also focuses on important issues such as female independence, gender equality, and the search for identity.
Since its premiere in 2019, “Little Women” has received an abundance of praise and recognition, including six Academy Award nominations. The film has been acclaimed for its direction, screenplay, and performances, and has been considered by many to be one of the best adaptations of Alcott’s novel.
