In September 2022, Roger Federer ended his career with a tense and emotional farewell at the Laver Cup, a tournament of his own creation, surrounded by great friends and rivals such as Rafa Nadal and Novak Djokovic.
A year later, on the occasion of the presentation of a new collection he created for the Uniqlo brand, of which he is an ambassador, the Swiss recalled his farewell to the slopes and new life: “In the end, I felt relieved. and happy to retire. It ended in the most perfect way in the Laver Cup.” explained The New Tork Times an extenist. “I was surrounded by the biggest rivals, my family and friends were there. For me it was ok, I’m ok now. I no longer need to pursue that desire,” he added.
The decision to leave was not an easy one. “I always feel like I’ve hit a high point and then I move on. Life without a game, life without fans and life without a calendar that has definitely dominated my life for 25 years. It was something I didn’t know how I would take& rdquo ;, he explained and admitted that “for a long time I tried to go back and give him another chance and get out of the game in a healthy way, but it was not feasible.”
Regarding his new life, he explained, “I started traveling more to have fun with my family. I took my kids to Lesotho for my foundation trip to Africa, we went to the Met Gala and rode the Orient Express with my parents. These are things that were simply not possible when I played because they took up too much playing time.. So I get different pictures and it’s nice to know that people are still happy to see me.”
