Narón will organize a multitude of events to commemorate March 8, International Women’s Day – Ferrol Comarcas

The mayoress of Marián Ferreiro, presented this Tuesday, February 28, with the mayor of Equality, Mar Gómez and the person in charge of the Socio-Community Service, Mercedes Taibo, the events scheduled by the City Council on the occasion of the commemoration of March 8, International Day of the woman.

The central act, as Ferreiro advanced, will take place that same day, with the traditional tribute to the Woman of the Year of Narón 2023 in the Town Hall, at 12:00 p.m., and with the subsequent visit in the A Gándara square to the exhibition “8M Women of Narón”.

The exhibition is made up of several totems, including one with the women who received the Narón Woman of the Year distinction and another with prominent feminists such as the journalist Virginia Bolten, the environmentalist Vandana Shiva, Emmeline Pankhurst and her daughters Chistabel and Sylvia, the feminist of the new generations Emma Watson, among others.

On the same day of March 8, the Pazo da Cultura, the Casa da Cultura, the Freixeiro roundabout and the court building in Xuvia will be illuminated in mauve.

DINNER

Among the central events is also the celebration on March 10 of the traditional Women’s Dinner, which will take place at the Casa Becerra restaurant.

The appointment will be at 9:30 p.m. and those interested in attending must register at the aforementioned establishment. In addition, a video in which residents of the city participated to talk about equality and reconciliation, women and health, technology and sexist violence can already be seen on the City Council’s Facebook.

The global program to commemorate Women’s Day will begin to take place coinciding with the beginning of March, with the exhibition of books and other materials that deal with the situation of women throughout history: “Letters that break the ceiling de cristal”, which can be seen until March 11 at the Library. On the 11th itself, in the aforementioned facilities, it will also be possible to attend the storyteller “And you, what do you want to be when you grow up?”, a storyteller for children and families by Trémola Teatro and which reflects on the prejudices and stereotypes related to Professions.

Likewise, this Wednesday, March 1, the Irmás Froilaz Municipal Training Center, in A Gándara, will host the presentation of the second edition of the book “Las Mujeres de Narón” at 11:30 am.

The city’s educational centers will host workshops on the history of feminism in March and will participate in the design of exhibitions, proposals aimed at schoolchildren in the third and fourth years of Primary School and the first year of ESO.

Girls and boys will also be the protagonists of a proposal designed in the A Solaina Play Center, where from March 6 to 10, feminist game workshops and activities to encourage reading will take place.

This same weekend, the VIII International Festival of the Singular theatrical monologue will begin, a cultural event in the Pazo da Cultura starring women and that includes shows for adults, children and also other parallel activities, such as a business round…… .

SPORTS

In the sports field, this Sunday, March 5, at 11:00 a.m., the “II Race and Walk for Equality” will leave the A Gándara sports hall, whose registration period ends this Wednesday night and in which Some 400 people are already signed up.

The programming will continue on March 7 at the Café Teatro del Pazo, which will host the presentation of the book “Voices of memory with women’s eyes”, at 7:00 p.m., by the teacher, writer and researcher Ánxela Loureiro.

On March 18 at 5:00 p.m., “Science on the Street” will be presented in the Plaza de A Gándara, a series of activities related to STEAM skills to discover female references, a proposal in which the Áurega Association collaborates.

The following day, on March 19, the Social Civic Center of Alto do Castaño will be the place where the talk, “Mental health in maternity/paternity” will be given at 7:30 p.m. and on the 25th in that same location , at 11:00 a.m. there will be a talk about “What does food have to do with mental health?”, with four women as speakers.
