Switzerland coach Murat Yakin reflected on Jann Sommer’s struggles at Bayern Munich and why Inter is the “right club” for a goalkeeper.
The 34-year-old Swiss goalkeeper joined the Bundesliga giants in the January transfer market for around €9m. He was assigned to cover for the injured Manuel Neuer but struggled to show his best during the six months in Bayern.
This summer, Inter named Sommer as the best option to replace André Onana and went to great lengths to secure a deal with Bayern, agreeing to pay around €6m, which gave the goalkeeper a two-year deal with an option for a third contract worth €2.5m. . net per year. season.
Speaking to Sport1 via Calciomercato.com, Yakin spoke for the first time about Sommer’s difficult six months at Bayern.
“I know Yann very well, I coached him in Basel. He’s a player who needs confidence to give 100%, he doesn’t deserve that kind of treatment. He fell victim to a certain mechanism that only happens at Bayern.
“When he came to the national team, of course, I talked to him. She didn’t know Yann. At Bayern, he was under a lot of pressure, and there he showed that he is a strong goalkeeper. We have resolved this issue with our goalkeeping coach.”
He tried to explain what happened to the 34-year-old man.
“I felt support from a sporting point of view, but then something was missing that didn’t go away. All the criticism hurt him, but he never complained. The stage at Bayern was not easy for Jann, and he had to fight.
Finally, Yakin spoke about Sommer’s move to Inter this summer.
“As long as he has the opportunity to play abroad, he will have to do it. He doesn’t even think about quitting. Yann still has something to give, Inter is the right club for that.”
