For more than three hours, all eyes were on a champagne-colored carpet (until now a red carpet) that hosts an endless number of looks analyzed with a magnifying glass year after year. A glamor parade that, in some cases, even gains more prominence than the official list of winners of the Awards. In fact, it is known and internalized by many that the Oscars have an “unwritten” award and that is to enter the “ranking” of the best dressed. That ‘top 10’ is a question as subjective as it is debatable, although there is a feeling and some global criteria that usually point to the same faces.
Held once again at the Kodak Theater in Los Angeles, the gala became a great fashion show with a greater media impact than Fashion Weeks in Paris or Milan, a matter of which Alta’s firms are more than aware. Sewing. Among the wide variety of impeccable designs that shone on the carpet of the movie mecca, Cara Delavigne was crowned the best dressed of the night thanks to her captivating and overwhelming dress, makeup and hairstyling. Ana de Armas did not disappoint either, composing a tandem that we will remember in future editions. That said, here is our definitive ‘top 10’ under some ‘fashion’ and ‘beauty’ criteria that we detail:
1. Cara Delavigne
The British actress and model fell in love like never before thanks to a fabulous design by the Lebanese firm Elie Saab. Without a doubt, it was the most commented appearance of the night. The red dress with a tight silhouette at the top, a princess cut, asymmetric shoulders, diagonal ruching and a flowing fall fell in love as soon as she stepped on the carpet. The infinite opening on her right leg and her studied movements before the accredited press revealed her spectacular shoes designed by Stuart Weitzman.
The jewelry was courtesy of Bvlgari. The striking white diamond bracelets and snake-shaped choker complemented her dress perfectly. As for the ‘beauty’, Delavigne could not choose a more successful make-up through subtle smoky pink eyes, natural lips and perfectly framed eyebrows. The super polished minimalist up-do was the finishing touch. Sublime.
2. Ana de Armas
Ana de Armas arrived and devastated. The Spanish actress of Cuban origin captivated with a Louis Vuitton design, a firm of which she is also an ambassador.
A strappy design made up of a super flattering neckline and shiny appliqués at the top, a corset-like silhouette and a mermaid fall. The tail of the garment had details that reminded us of the petals of a rose, which were manually embroidered through a process of almost a thousand hours led by the team of the French ‘maison’.
De Armas finished off the ‘outfit’ with a sober, minimalist and sophisticated ‘beauty look’ through loose hair with subtle waves complemented by impeccably placed extensions, and makeup in champagne tones, finished off with a ‘glow’ effect on the skin and on the lips.
3.Jessica Chastain
If in the last edition she triumphed dressed in Gucci, with sequins and gradient as protagonists, this year she has once again opted for sequins, although with a different proposal.
Jessica Chastain managed to become one of the most applauded on the champagne carpet thanks to a dress that brilliantly combines sequins and velvet. Her sweetheart neckline, framed with a black velvet trim, was the same material used for the elegant train that finished off this outfit. The precious silver necklace with emeralds finished off a fabulous look.
4.Jennifer Connelly
Jennifer Connelly also opted for a French haute couture firm. A beautiful bateau neckline dress embellished with an application of a geometric shape bathed in Louis Vuitton beading. A model that we fell in love with for the perfection of the design thanks to its cleanliness, discretion and avant-garde. A silent luxury signed by Ghesquière, one of the best creative directors in the fashion industry today.
And if there is a winning ‘beauty look’ in this edition, it is the combination of a super-worked eye, a super-clean and smooth pick-up, and ‘glow’ on the lips. Here is the best example.
5.Jessica Springsteen
We have spent several weeks announcing the return, consolidation and triumph of the aesthetics of the nineties through lingerie dresses. Olympic rider Jessica Springsteen, daughter of musicians Bruce Springsteen and Patti Scialfa, opted for a flattering super ‘minimal’ and clean design made up of thin straps and a deep V-neckline. The black ‘total look’ was finished off with loose hair loaded with points of light and a super ‘glow’ makeup. fantastic.
6. Emily Blunt
Who does not remember his “super fashion” role in ‘The Devil Wears Prada’? Emily Blunt is always positioned as one of the actresses who best defends the latest trends, and in this edition of the Oscars she did not disappoint either. She opted for the ‘total white look’ signed by Valentino, in a minimalist key, with her shoulders and clavicle exposed. A feminine design that she complemented with XL-size cascading earrings, a matching clutch, a clean up-do, and fresh and smoky makeup, with metallic and glow touches.
The only “but”? the unflattering mark on her neckline, probably the result of the sun, and emphasized by the ‘phocall’ spotlights…
7. Jamie Lee Curtis
Jamie Lee Curtis triumphed on and off the mat. The actress won the Oscar for ‘Best Supporting Actress’ and she also entered all the best-dressed lists thanks to a jewel dress signed by the Italian firm Dolce & Gabbana. Full of ‘pailettes’, with a corseted upper part, long sleeves and a round neck, she opted to show off her enviable figure like never before. Her flattering short hair, her subtle jewelry and her perfect makeup completed an incomparable ‘outfit’.
8.Nicole Kidman
It has not been her best look, far from it, but the Australian always (or almost always) sneaks in among the best dressed. Nicole Kidman chose an impressive black sequined dress signed by Giorgio Armani, with a leg opening and asymmetrical sleeves. The most impressive of the interpreter’s dress were two large black and silver roses that adorned her right shoulder and hip.
The worst of styling? The ‘beauty look’. Neither the disheveled effect of long hair, nor a make-up that detracted from the outfit’s packaging, did not finish convincing us.
9.Elizabeth Olsen
Elizabeth Olsen opted for one of the most minimalist and elegant looks of the night, reinterpreting the ‘clean girl aesthetic’, a trend characterized by the so-called “washed face effect”, wearing a beautiful porcelain complexion with the only contrast being her lips. With the half-parted updo, she gave even more importance to her facial skin and the black sequined Givenchy dress. The sister of the famous Olsen twins did not disappoint.
10.Cate Blanchet
And we finished the ‘top 10’ with the British. Cate Blanchett opted for a Louis Vuitton design made up of a black mermaid skirt with a cape and a blue velvet top with volumes and pleats, accented with strong shoulder pads. It is not her best style either, but her elegance and knowing how to be are capable of elevating any look.
As for the ‘beauty’, Blanchett chose a high updo with a parting in the middle and loose locks, and a natural makeup with a luminous finish. Without a doubt, sophistication, minimalism and elegance in person. Nothing more to talk.
