The Oscars arrive today with great favorites and high expectations

The award ceremony takes place today with Everything Everywhere All at Once as the favorite and high expectations about the first victory of many figures and the redemption of others who were ostracized.

Tonight, at 9:00 p.m., the Dolby Theater dresses up to receive the stars who will attend the most important night in cinema: the Oscars. In its 95th ceremony, Everything Everywhere All at Once stands out as the favorite to win the main awards of the night, including Best Film.

The most anticipated evening of cinema takes place in its traditional setting, the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, which for the first time in the last six decades will not have a red carpet but a champagne-colored one, chosen to provide greater contrast with the rest of the the decoration.

After having divided the responsibility of driving in three last year, this time, the job will be in charge of a single person: Jimmy Kimmel. It is the third time that the television host will be in charge of the award ceremony. On one of the previous occasions, in 2017, the confusion occurred in the announcement of the main shortlist, when they mistakenly cited La la land as the winner instead of Moonlight.

To avoid controversial situations like that and the one that marred last year’s edition, in which Will Smith came on stage and slapped Chris Rock in the face, the event will have a crisis team, which promises to provide a quick response to any unexpected.

Presenters. A stellar cast of figures were summoned to introduce the nominees and announce the winners. Unlike last year’s ceremony, in which eight shortlists were excluded from the live broadcast, this time all the categories will once again be televised. The number of presenters somehow explains this change.

Presenters will be Halle Berry, Cara Delevingne, Kate Hudson, Eva Longoria, Mindy Kaling, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Elizabeth Olsen, Andie MacDowell, Harrison Ford, Paul Dano, and hotshot Pedro Pascal, along with Riz Ahmed, Halle Bailey, Ariana DeBose, Emily Blunt, Jennifer Connelly, Nicole Kidman, Elizabeth Banks, Troy Kotsur, Jonathan Majors, and Salma Hayek.

Rounding out the list: Antonio Banderas, John Cho, Andrew Garfield, Deepika Padukone, Questlove, Florence Pugh, Samuel L. Jackson, Glenn Close, Hugh Grant, Danai Gurira, Janelle Monáe, Melissa McCarthy, Zoe Saldaña, Donnie Yen, Hugh Grant, Michael B. Jordan, Dwayne Johnson, Glenn Close, Jessica Chastain, and Sigourney Weaver.

The great absence among the presenters is that of Will Smith, who after the 10-year veto without being able to attend the Oscars, will not be part of the traditional practice in which the last winners announce the new winners.

Favorites. Everything Everywhere All at Once stands out as the favorite of the night, occupying several of the main shortlists among its 11 nominations. Its directors, Los Daniels, Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, will compete for the first time in the Directing shortlist, in which Steven Spielberg also appears, for The Fabelmans.

The protagonist of the film, Michelle Yeoh, will fight for her first Oscar in the shortlist for Actress, along with another favourite, Cate Blanchett, for Tár. The oriental interpreter became involved in a controversy this week by sharing on her social networks a screenshot of an article defending her victory in opposition to Blanchett’s, which was considered a negative campaign practice and could end playing against him.

In the shortlist for Supporting Actress, two performers from the film, Stephanie Hsu and Jamie Lee Curtis, the latter favourite, will compete for the statuette with Angela Bassett, from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Among the actors, Ke Huy Quan stands out as the favorite to win as Supporting Actor and thus celebrate his return after 30 years away from Hollywood.

BRENDAN FRASER. However, the greatest expectation revolves around the protagonist of The Whale, Brendan Fraser, in the shortlist for Actor, who must beat Austin Butler, for Elvis, to seal his redemption after years in the shadows with the precious golden statuette.
