The Academy Awards ceremony, popularly known as the Oscars, will take place this Sunday the 12th, starting at 9:00 p.m., with the comedian leading Jimmy Kimmel (in his third appearance as host) and live broadcast of TNT, TNT Series and for the first time, it will add the option of streaming it on the HBO Max platform. The great candidate with less than a week to go is the film with the most nominations, Everything everywhere at the same time, which, like most of the films that will be protagonists of the big night in Hollywood, can be seen in our country. The great local condiment is the nomination of Argentina, 1985 as best international film, a category in which it is not the favorite to win (such a seat corresponds to the German No news at the front) but — it is known — surprises are a regular ingredient in these awards.
Confirmed presenters for the party, the 95th in Academy history, include Riz Ahmed, Emily Blunt, Glenn Close, Jennifer Connelly, Ariana DeBose, Samuel L. Jackson, Dwayne Johnson, Michael B. Jordan, Troy Kotsur, Jonathan Majors, Melissa McCarthy, Janelle Monáe, Deepika Padukone, Questlove, Zoe Saldana, and Donnie Yen. Also taking the stage at the Dolby Hale Bailey will be Antonio Banderas, Elizabeth Banks, Jessica Chastain (she will present the Best Actor Oscar as the latest winner of the Best Actress statuette; her male counterpart, Will Smith, was banished from the awards for ten years after attacking Chris Rock), John Cho, Andrew Garfield, Hugh Grant, Salma Hayek, Nicole Kidman, Florence Pugh and Sigourney Weaver. Lenny Kravitz will musicalize the traditional segment In Memoriamdedicated to remembering the stars and artists who died in recent months.
In addition, four of the five Oscar-nominated songs will be performed live on the Dolby Theater stage: Rihanna will perform “Lift Me Up” from the soundtrack of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Everything everywhere at the same time has as a candidate “This Is a Life”, which will be presented by David Byrne, Son Lux, and the nominee Stephanie Hsu – Mitski will not be part of the game -. Sofia Carson and songwriter Diane Warren will come up with the nominee “Applause” (from Tell It Like a Woman) and the favorite to take the statuette, “Naatu Naatu” from the Netflix film RRR, will bring all the exuberance and color of Bollywood to Los Angeles. It only remains to confirm that Lady Gaga — who memorably lifted the Oscar thanks to “Shallow” by A star Is Born — perform “Hold My Hand,” by Top Gun: Maverick.
The Red carpet
This Sunday, from 18, E! Entertainment will present its traditional coverage from the red carpet of the Dolby Theater, Live From the Red Carpet with all its specialists following particularly the Latino nominees: in addition to the delegation from Argentina, 1985, the three most important Mexican directors at an international level will be represented, Guillermo del Toro (pinocchio), Alfonso Cuaron (the pupil) and Alejandro González Iñárritu (Bard), the Cuban Ana de Armas (candidate for best actress for Blonde).
Starting at 8:00 p.m., the official preshow will begin meeting point, that will anticipate the intimacy of the gala that no one can miss with expert analysts and commentators (once the transmission is over, both the ceremony and the preshow will be available on HBO Max until Wednesday 16). This segment will be led by Heisel Mora and Anais Castro, while Axel Kuschevatzky — producer of Argentina, 1985 — and Lety Sahagún will interview the nominees on the red carpet.
