This Sunday the 12th, starting at 9:00 p.m., the awards ceremony of the Hollywood Academy, popularly known as the Oscars, will take place. With the driving of the comedian Jimmy Kimmel (in his third appearance as host), the live broadcast will be in charge of TNT and TNT Series while for the first time the option to watch it will be added on streaming by the HBO Max platform. The great candidate with less than a week to go is the film with the most nominations, Everything everywhere at the same time, which, like most of the films that will be the protagonists of this great night, can be seen in our country. The great local condiment is the nomination of Argentina, 1985 as best international film, a category in which it is not the favorite to win (such a seat corresponds to the German No news at the front) but – it is known – surprises are a common ingredient in these awards.
Among the confirmed presenters for the party, the 95th in Academy history are Riz Ahmed, Emily Blunt, Glenn Close, Jennifer Connelly, Ariana DeBose, Samuel L. Jackson, Dwayne Johnson, Michael B. Jordan, Troy Kotsur, Jonathan Majors, Melissa McCarthy, Janelle Monáe, Deepika Padukone, Questlove, Zoe Saldana, and Donnie Yen. Also taking to the Dolby stage will be Halle Bailey, Antonio Banderas, Elizabeth Banks, Jessica Chastain (she will present the Best Actor Oscar as the latest winner of the Best Actress statuette; her male counterpart, Will Smith, was banished from the awards for ten years after attacking Chris Rock), John Cho, Andrew Garfield, Hugh Grant, Salma Hayek, Nicole Kidman, Florence Pugh and Sigourney Weaver. Lenny Kravitz will musicalize the traditional segment In Memoriamdedicated to remembering the stars and artists who died in recent months.
In addition, four of the five Oscar-nominated songs will be performed live on the Dolby Theater stage: Rihanna will perform “Lift Me Up” from the soundtrack of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Everything everywhere at the same time has as a candidate “This Is a Life”, which will be presented by David Byrne, Son Lux, and the nominee Stephanie Hsu – Mitski will not be part of the game -. Sofia Carson and songwriter Diane Warren will come up with the nominee “Applause” (from Tell It Like a Woman) and the favorite to take the statuette, “Naatu Naatu” from the Netflix film RRR, will bring all the exuberance and color of Bollywood to Los Angeles. The one who will miss the appointment will be Lady Gaga — who memorably lifted the Oscar thanks to “Shallow” by A star Is Born —, who will not participate in the number of his song “Hold My Hand”, from the film Top Gun: Maverick.
Where to see the red carpet
This Sunday, from 18, E! Entertainment will present its traditional coverage from the red carpet of the Dolby Theater, Live From the Red Carpet with all its specialists following particularly the Latino nominees: in addition to the delegation of Argentina, 1985the three most important international Mexican directors will be represented, Guillermo del Toro (pinocchio), Alfonso Cuaron (the pupil) and Alejandro González Iñárritu (Bard), the Cuban Ana de Armas (candidate for best actress for Blonde).
