YG Entertainment’s strategic decision
YG Entertainment officially announced the closure of its actor management division, declaring its intention to focus all its capabilities on music. In a statement, the agency said,
“We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the actors who have worked with us and the fans who have shown us so much love and support. We will continue to provide full support until the end of our artists’ contracts.”
Breaking up with a famous talent
This move means that YG Entertainment is gradually moving away from the actor portfolio it has built up over the years. Among them are famous names such as Kim Hee-ae, Cha Seung-won, Yoo In-na, Lee Sung-Kyung, Jang Ki-Yong, Yoo Seung-ho, Son Na-eun, and many others.
However, YG has stated that these artists have no plans to renew their contracts but will continue to work until their current contracts expire. Therefore, departures will not be immediate but will spread out over time.
Refocus on music
This decision marks a new phase in YG Entertainment’s strategy, which began last year. The agency has strengthened its production team by introducing its own YGX Music Training Center, which has 50 members.
These relocations are part of an ambitious project for 2025, especially with the highly anticipated comeback of Blackpink, along with their world tour. Baby Monster, YG’s next-generation flagship group, and the legend 2NE1 are expected to increase their activities this year.
Transition to the future
YG Entertainment has been a leader in actor management, but this restructuring is intended to strengthen its leading role in the music industry. This decision is interpreted as an intention to focus on iconic groups and artists while solidifying its influence in the musical entertainment sector.
